10/21/19.- Segovian director Lidia Martín Merino presented Agapito Marazuela. La estatua partida (Agapito Marazuela. The split statue), screened in the Castilla y León Feature Films section at the Valladolid Laboratory of the Arts (LAVA) this Monday, October 21. The feature-length documentary tells the story of Spanish musician and folklorist, guitarist and dulzaina soloist Agapito Marazuela, who devoted his life to restoring Castilian folk music.
Agapito Marazuela. La estatua partida addresses the musician’s story through interviews with his pupils, images, music, and the voice of Agapito Marazuela himself.
When she presented the documentary, Martín Merino reflected on the film’s importance: «Not forgeting Agapito’s life is a great responsibility both for you and for us».
The documentary delves into the time the Segovian folklorist spent in prison after the Spanish Civil War. The director said that «Agapito was hidden because Spanish culture was hidden at the time».
Lidia Martín Merino is a Segovian filmmaker, screenwriter, editor, and producer who trained in performing arts at the Berlin-Technische Universität and the CEU San Pablo in Valencia. She has mostly devoted her filmography to documentaries, both feature-length films and short films. This is not the first time that she takes part in the Valladolid International Film Festival with one of her films — she presented Godot aprieta pero no ahoga in 2012, and El teatro, la crueldad y las luciérnagas in 2016.
