22/10/19.- The German-Rumanian filmmaker has presented this Tuesday 22 October the documentary feature film Colectiv in the section History Time. The film tells the story of how some medical negligences and corruption after a fire at a club, and its subsequent covering by the Romanian health system and government, provoked a crisis in the whole country.

Colectiv uses real recordings, following the matter closely, accompanying journalists and the Health Minister in office in Romania when the crisis was occurring. “Everything has been filmed as it has been happening. Everything is documental. There is no fiction. We started as soon as the crisis started. This is what we call cinema realité. We filmed these people while they did their jobs,” the director has explained.

Nanau reflected on the possible influence of this documentary in the upcoming government elections in Romania: “I don’t think it can change society but it can change individuals. It makes people reflect on what there is. I do hope this. We, directors can only show individuals another reality. Put a mirror in front of them to show them another perspective.”

Alexander Nanau is a filmmaker who was born in Romania and has German nationality. He studied Film Directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin.

His work in The world according to Ion B and Toto and his Sistersun were awarded with an Emmy Award in 2010 and an award at the European Academy in 2015. His works, both as photography director and director, have been screened at festivals such as Cannes and Venice Festival.
