Chance or rather destiny pushed Jose Coronado into the world of acting. After studying several courses in Law and Medicine, his career seemed oriented towards the world of fashion, when in his early thirties he decided to take acting classes under the guidance of Cristina Rota.
That decision changed his life, and just a month later he got his first job as an actor in an audition at the Centro Dramático Nacional, debuting on the stage with Lluís Pasqual in Federico García Lorca’s ‘The Audience’, where he played a brief role. A few months later, Ricardo Franco recruited him to star in his film ‘Berlin Blues’, which became his screen debut.
Since then he has participated in a hundred films and in television series like ‘Periodistas’ or ‘Brigada central’, which made him one of the most popular and beloved faces in Spain’s audiovisual sector. However, he never stopped working in
the theatre, where he has starred in memorable productions under the orders of stage directors like Emilio Hernández, Miguel Narros, Paco Pino, Mario Gas, Juan Diego Botto,Nancho Novo, Carlota Ferrer or Julián Fuentes Reta.
In cinema, ‘Goya in Bordeaux’ (Carlos Saura, 1998) earned him his first Goya nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and he has excelled in films such as ‘Nobody’s life’ (Eduard Cortés, 2001), which premiered in Valladolid, ‘Wolf’ (Miguel Courtois, 2003), ‘The Distance’ (Iñaki Dorronsoro, 2005), ‘Todos estamos invitados’ (Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, 2007) or ‘Your Son’ (Mi- guel Ángel Vivas), which opened the 2018 edition of SEMINCI and earned him a nomination as Best Leading Actor at the Goya Awards.
Recently he has starred in ‘Way Down’ (Jaume Balagueró, 2021) and in Oriol Paulo’s Netflix series’ The Innocent‘, but it was with his trilogy of collaborations with Enrique Urbizu that he shone the most on the big screen: with ‘Box 507’ (2001) he became Goya nominee for Best Supporting Actor; ‘Life Marks’ (2003) earned him unanimous applause; and with‘No Rest for the Wicked’ he finally bagged the well-deserved statuette for the Best Leading Actor, in addition to five other main Goyas for the film.
