Juan José Campanella (Luna de Avellaneda, El Hijo de la Novia) presented his latest work, El Cuento de las Comadrejas [The Weasel’s Tale], this Sunday 24th October 2021 at the 66th edition of the Seminci Festival, a special edition of the festival for the director in which he was awarded the Spike of Honour for his acclaimed professional career. The director was accompanied by actor Oscar Martínez (El Ciudadano Ilustre [The Distinguished Citizen]), who plays one of the main characters.
The film is a black comedy that pays tribute to the golden age of cinema. An experienced actress, a retired director, a frustrated screenwriter and an actor with few artistic qualities live together in a mansion in which they have created a complicated atmosphere. With the appearance of two ambitious and interested young men, the inhabitants of the house must join forces in order to get on with their lives.
“It only makes sense if the protagonists are great film stars; you have to put that cast together,” said Campanella at the presentation of the film, which he said took “22 years to make.” The cast is “a real luxury” with the participation of Clara Lago, Graciela Borges, the recently deceased member of Les Luthiers Marcos Mundstock, Luis Brandoni, Nicolás Francella and the aforementioned Óscar Martínez.
“We tried to have a lot of black humour and make a great comedy,” continued the Oscar winner, a criterion shared by the actor: “We really enjoyed making it and we enjoyed watching it.”
