The Valladolid International Film Festival re-screens several of the award-winning films of the 66th edition in a special session scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Teatro Carrión. This is a long-standing tradition of Seminci that consists in providing one final screening slot for feature films in the Official Section that have gained recognition from the International Jury, so that audiences who missed their programmed screenings have a new chance to view them still within the framework of Seminci.
Thus, the Silver Spike-winner Sis dies corrents (The Odd-Job Men) will play again tomorrow morning at 11.30 am. Neus Ballús’s movie is a hybrid between comedy and documentary starring three plumbers. In the words of the film’s director, it is “a movie about the need to understand and accept our differences.”
Later in the day, at 5:00 p.m., the multi-awarded film La mif by Fred Baillif will have an extra screening at Carrión. A portrait of life in foster homes with a strong generational perspective focused on younger people (more particularly teenage and young adult women) , the film has bagged in this 66th edition the Ribera del Duero award for Best Director, the José Salcedo award for Best Editing and a special mention for its cast : “As a man I sense that it is time to make feminist films,” said the director after his multiple-award harvest was announced at Valladolid.
The last film to screen at this year’s Seminci is Hive, the recipient of the prize for Best Actress (Yllka Gash) and of the newly created FUNDOS award. Replaying at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, the film narrates the continuous efforts of a woman to improve herself by making her way into the workplace as she tries to start an agricultural business after the disappearance of her husband in the Kosovo war.
