FOR THE LOVE OF CINEMA

Under the eloquent title of “For the love of cinema”, this 67th Seminci brings together a handful of titles that contain countless reasons to love the seventh art. The selection serves to remember the centenary of what is considered the first documentary in history: Nanook of the North (Nanuk, the Eskimo), by Robert J. Flaherty, and the same anniversary of director Blake Edwards, whose unforgettable El guateque will be screened. And the memory extends to other essential figures of all times, from Godard to Jane Campion or Mario Camus.

The love of cinema is behind the restoration of Florián Rey’s La aldea maldita, which can be seen today at the Miguel Delibes Auditorium, also wrapped in the warmth of live music. The legendary 1930 silent film arrives in a copy restored by the Filmoteca Española that recovers twelve unpublished minutes of footage. The musician Raül Refree accompanies the images with the interpretation of the soundtrack adapted to the new length, one more argument to love cinema and its happy coexistence with other
artistic disciplines.
