L’AMOUR FOU

Jacques Rivette
France
 - 1969

During the rehearsals for the production of the tragedy ‘Andromaque’, the leading actress and her director, a couple behind the scenes, can’t find a way to leave their personal problems at home. And life imitates fiction, creating a real tragedy for this couple when the man finds comfort with other women while the actress prefers to stay focused on her work, as if nothing is happening with her partner.

Jacques Rivette

He was born in Rouen, the capital of Normandy (France) in 1928 and died in 2016. Founder of the magazine ‘La Gazzette du Cinéma’, collaborator of ‘Arts’ and chief editor during the best period of ‘Cahiers du Cinéma’, he debuted as film director in 1960 with ‘Paris Belongs To Us’. His filmography combines unique literary adaptations, such as ‘The Nun’ (1966), ‘Mad Love’ (1968) or ‘Wuthering Heights’ (1985), and works as personal as ‘Céline and Julie Go Boating’ (1974), ‘Love on the Ground’ (1984) or ‘The Beautiful Troublemaker’ (1991). In 1991 he was awarded the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival for his entire career, and in 2001 he won the Special Jury Prize at Seminci with ‘Who Knows?’. His filmography also includes works such as ‘The Story of Marie and Julien’ (2003), ‘The Duchess of Langeais’ (2007) and ‘Around a Small Mountain’ (2009).
