Santiago Auserón has been imbued with the rhythmic wisdom of Cuban son music since his first visit to the country in 1984, during Radio Futura’s first vacation. This influence was transferred into his artistic career as a mestizo innovation in rock music. His current project, Juan Perro, is his sound laboratory, where he hybridizes the musics of Cuba, Spain and New Orleans. A journey that starts from the Spanish tradition and flies to the Mississippi Delta in the form of blues, with an midway stop in the Cuban son, to finally merge with the jazz of New Orleans.

He was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1975. In 2016 he directed his first feature film with Pavel Giroud, ‘Playing Lecuona’, which received the award for best documentary at the Montreal Festival and was presented, among other competitions, at the IDFA in Amsterdam, Valladolid’s Seminci or the Rotterdam Festival. It was followed by ‘María en el exilio’ (2018) and ‘Atlanticidad’ (2019). He has also produced fiction feature films such as ‘Chamaco’ (Juan Carlos Cremata, 2010), ‘Larga distancia’ (Esteban Insausti, 2011), ‘Cuando los hombres quedan solos’ (Fernando Martínez, 2017) or ‘Platón’ (Iván López, 2018). He is currently producing and directing the feature film ‘La partitura del cosmos’.
