Georgia, guest country at the 64th Seminci with a twenty-title retrospective
05/09/2019.- The Valladolid International Film Festival, Seminci, has singled out Georgia, the former Soviet Republic, as the guest country in its 64th edition scheduled for 19-26 October.
The retrospective will feature a selection of twenty titles mainly produced over the last two decades and directed by such eminent filmmakers as multi-awarded Otar Iosseliani (Venice, Berlin, Mar del Plata), and younger auteurs who have likewise achieved international recognition after screening their work at several film festivals. The latter category includes, for example, Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß, who bagged Berlin’s CICAE award for In Bloom (2013); George Ovashvili, the recipient of a Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary Festival for Corn Island, (2014); or Ana Urushadze, an award-winner at Locarno and Sarajevo for her feature-length film  Scary Mother (2017).
Organized in collaboration with the Georgian National Film Center (GNFC) and accompanied by a publication exploring its contents, the retrospective will screen fiction films (both feature-lengths and shorts) as well as documentaries.
