04/10/2019.- Mika Kaurismäki (Helsinki, Finland, 1955) is one of the usual directors in the International Film Week of Valladolid, Seminci, in which he has participated on five occasions, the first in the 50th edition, where he presented the documentary Brasileirinho in History Time. Since then, he has participated on four occasions in the Official Section: Kolme viisasta miestä (2008), Brothers (2011), Road North (2012) and The Girl King (2015). This 64 edition he will be closing the Official Section, without participating in the contest, with the comedy Master Cheng (Mestari Cheng).

Born in Helsinki in 1955, Mika Kaurismaki studied Cinematography at Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Múnich between 1977 and 1981. He made his cinema debut with Liar (1980), for which his brother Aki wrote the script and participated as an actor. This film marked the start of a film career for both brothers, who created a new film era in Finland. He was cofounder of producers Villealfa Film Productions (1981) and Marianna Films Oy (1987), as well as the Midnight Sun Film Festival (1986).

His broad filmography includes 37 titles, including short-films, documentaries, TV series and fiction feature films. Kaurismäki is the author of, among other film titles, Helsinki Napoli All Night Long (1987), Zombie and the Ghost Train (1991) or Tigrero: A Film That Was Never Made (1994).
