El Sueño de Sigena [Sigena’s Dream] by Garcés Lambert recreates a Chapter House considered “the Sistine Chapel of European Romanesque”

The documentary film El Sueño de Sigena [Sigena’s Dream], which is participating in the DOC.Spain section at the 66th edition of Seminci, was presented this Thursday with the presence of its director, Jesús Garcés Lambert, its protagonist, Juan Emilio Naya, and the producer and screenwriter Xavier Atance.

“The story you are about to see has made me passionate, it’s changed me as a person. It’s about Juan and fifteen years of his life,” Jesús Garcés explained to the audience. The protagonist, an astrophysicist born in the town of Villanueva de Sigena, undertakes the biggest project of his life, embarking on the recreation of the chapter house of the monastery of this municipality in Aragon. From here, Juan will need to find the people and places that will help him solve this great puzzle and be able to show the chapter house, considered then the “Sistine Chapel of European Romanesque”

“I think that if there is one word that defines the film, it’s the magic around all these years, of the refurbishment work, of a dream and of a ceiling that is incredible,” said Juan Emilio Naya, the protagonist of the documentary.

In addition, producer and scriptwriter Xavier Atance highlighted the merit of Juan Emilio Naya’s work in the documenting: “Without any institutional help he has tried to find out what the paintings were like. This merit is his because thanks to him we have been able to know what one of the missing beauties was like.”
