Numerous international and Spanish filmmakers and actors will be present at Seminci during its 66th edition
  • Guests include former model and photographer Pattie Boyd, actors Malcolm McDowell, Óscar Martínez and Eduardo Blanco, Oscar winners Juan José Campanella, Vittorio Storaro and Luis Puenzo, or Seminci awardees Robert Guédiguian, Lili Horvát and Farnoosh Samadi. 
  • There will be an ample representation of Spanish cinema including the presence in Valladolid of Clara Lago, El Langui, Julieta Serrano, Vicky Peña, Marta Nieto, Antonio Resines, Tristán Ulloa, Juan Diego, Gracia Querejeta, Judith Colell, Enrique Urbizu or Gonzalo Suárez.

The Valladolid International Film Festival will receive during its 66th edition the visit of a large number of filmmakers, actors and professionals from the several crafts of the film and audiovisual industry, among them, the former British model and photographer Pattie Boyd; British actor Malcolm McDowell, the star of A Clockwork Orange; Oscar winners like film director Juan José Campanella and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro; Argentine actors Eduardo Blanco and Óscar Martínez, and numerous well-known faces from Spanish cinema.

Pattie Boyd will travel to  Valladolid on the occasion of the “Beatles Forever” retrospective, which commemorates the 60th anniversary of the first concert by the Liverpool quartet. The British artist, and ex-wife of George Harrison, appears  in two of the titles making up the retrospective’s screening marathon  —A Hard Day’s Night and The Beatles And India—, while her photographic collections are also part of the homonymous exhibition hosted by  Casa de la India in Valladolid. Pattie Boyd will participate on Tuesday 26th in the presentation and subsequent Q&A of the film The Beatles And India along with the documentary’s  directors Ajoy Bose and Peter Comptom, who will also attend the Valladolid Festival , before visiting  the exhibition at Casa de la India the following day .

British actor Malcolm McDowell, the protagonist of A Clockwork Orange (1971), will visit Valladolid on October 23 to present the documentary The Forbidden Orange, an original TCM production directed by Pedro González Bermúdez that reconstructs the events surrounding the first public screening of Stanley Kubrick’s film in Spain.

McDowell will take part in several events in order to present The Forbidden Orange within the framework of Seminci. On October 23, together with the film’s  director, Pedro González Bermúdez, he will attend the screening of both the documentary  and the restored print of Kubrick’s film at Teatro Carrión, the same venue  that hosted the first screening of the controversial movie in Spain, where he will hold a Q&A with the audience   attending the event. Some of the people who appear  in the documentary will also attend the film’s presentation, including  writers Vicente Molina Foix and Gustavo Martín Garzo, and former director of Seminci Carmelo Romero.

The Oscar winner for The Secret In Their Eyes, Juan José Campanella, will be present at Seminci to receive the Honorary Spike during the Opening Gala on October 23, an event where he will be accompanied  by the Argentine actors Óscar Martínez and Eduardo Blanco, the Spanish actress Clara Lago and the producer Gerardo Herrero. Campanella will also participate in a round table organised as part of the retrospective  “Wild Stories, Extraordinary Stories. Argentine Cinema 2000-2020 “, which will also be joined by  filmmakers Luis Puenzo –the winner of an Oscar in 1986 for The Official Story- Mariano Llinás, Eloisa Solaa and  actress Inés Efrón.

Vittorio Storaro, a triple Oscar winner for Apocalypse Now (1979), Reds (1981) and The Last Emperor (1987), will receive Seminci’s Honorary Spike in the course of the festival’s Closing Gala. The award will be presented by the Spanish director Carlos Saura, with whom he has worked on numerous films, including Saura’s latest movie The King of All the World, which will be presented the day before in the Official Section out of competition.

The Official Section of the 66 Seminci reflects the festival’s commitment to the powerful gaze of new international film auteurs. To date, attendance has been confirmed by the French filmmaker  Robert Guédiguian (Mali Twist), the Costa Rican director Nathalie Álvarez Mesén (Clara sola), the Iranian Panah Panahi (Hit The Road), Tunis’s Leyla Bouzid (A Tale Of Love And Desire), India’s  Deepa Mehta (Funny Boy) and Pan Nalin (Last Film Show),  Kosovar Blerta Basholli (Hive), who will be accompanied by actress Ylka Gashi, Argentina’s Paula Hernández (The Siamese Bond) along with actress Valeria Lois; the Israeli-Palestinian Hany Abu-Assad (Saloon Huda), accompanied by the actresses Manal Awad and Maisa Abd Elhadi; the Swiss Fred Baillif (La Mif), and  the protagonist of Compartment N.6, Amir Jadidi.

A large representation of Spanish films in the Official Section will also attend Valladolid: director Clara Roquet and actresses Nicolle García, María Morera, Vicky Peña, Carol Hurtado (Libertad), this year’s opening film; director Neus Ballús and actors Mohamed Mellali, Pep Sarrà and Valero Escobar (The Odd-Job Men); director Helena de Llanos and actors Óscar Ladoire, Tristán Ulloa and Juan Diego (Journey to Somewhere), and the above-mentioned Carlos Saura, the director of The King of All the World.

The 66th edition of  Seminci will have  a large representation of directors, actors  and professionals from all sectors of the Spanish film industry. In addition to the vast majority of Spanish filmmakers screening their films in the several festival sections , Valladolid will welcome the presence of filmmakers like  Álex de la Iglesia (Honorary Spike), Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Manuel Iborra, Benito Zambrano, Enrique Urbizu, Gracia Querejeta , Jaime Chávarri, Enrique Gabriel, Gonzalo Suárez, Judith Colell, Enrique García, Julia de Paz, Adán Aliaga, Celia Viada, Amparo Climent, Juanjo Giménez, Fernando Colomo, Adrián Silvestre, David Martín de los Santos, Javier Marco, Guillermo Benet and Lluis Miñarro, among others.

They will be joined in Valladolid’s Film Week by actresses Mercedes Sampietro (Honorary Spike), Carolina Bang, Ana Gracia, Emma Suárez (the godmother of the 66th edition), Elia Galera, Eva Martín, Marta Etura, Irene Visedo, Silvia Marsó, Rosana Pastor, Julieta Serrano, Tina Sainz, Marta Nieto and Luisa Martín; and actors Emilio Gutiérrez Caba and Jose Coronado (Honorary Spikes), Carlos Areces, Antonio Resines, Guillermo Montesinos, Joaquín Climent, Roberto Álamo, Juan Miguel Montilla “El Langui” or Pablo Puyol.

Juries

Farnoosh Samadi

The juries of the 66th edition of the Valladolid Film Festival will include filmmakers and actors  from around the world. The International Jury, chaired by Deepa Mehta, will be joined, among others, by the Hungarian filmmaker Lili Horvát, whose second feature Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time won last year’s  Golden Spike, as well as the «Pilar Miró» award and and the award for Best Actress, and the Spanish actress Marta Etura.

As for Meeting Point, the section’s jury will be formed by  the Iranian filmmaker Farnoosh Samadi, the only winner of two consecutive Golden Spikes for her shorts The Silence (2016) and The Gaze (2017), in addition to the first prize of last year’s Meeting Point with her feature film 180 ° Rule; Spanish director José Luis Montesinos, the winner of the Goya for Best Short Film for El Corredor; and Romina Paula, Argentine actress, director and playwright. In addition, the jury of the DOC. España  section includes  the Argentine director Ignacio Acconcia, the author of The Fire Boy;  and Spain’s Héctor Domínguez-Viguera, the winner of this section last year for Tierra de leche y miel, and Manuel Menchón, who directed the documentary feature Words for an End of the World.
