The 66th edition of Seminci will host the 5th Forum of Women Filmmakers, jointly organised by the festival and the magazine Caimán Cuadernos de Cine. This event is slated for October 23 and 24 and will be dedicated to female screenwriters. Throughout two working days involving several sessions behind closed doors, the participants will analyse the situation of women’s screenwriting on the basis of both their personal experiences and a report drawn up for Caimán by Concha Gómez, from the Carlos III University, concerning the presence and role of women screenwriters in the film industry.
Following the event’s discussions, a document of conclusions will be issued and an open-to-the public round table will be held at Teatro Calderón’s Hall of Mirrors on Sunday 24. The meeting will be attended by several women screenwriters who sometimes combine the writing of scriptss with other film-related activities such as production, direction or acting: Lola Mayo, Isabel Peña, Valentina Viso, Virginia Yagüe, Marina Parés, Elena Molina, Belén Sánchez, Paula Jiménez, Elisa Puerto, Clara Roquet, Silvia Herreros de Tejada, Ángela Armero and Coral Cruz.
On the other hand, the Meeting on Independent Distribution, coordinated by former director of Seminci Fernando Lara, will once again hold as its core public event a round table in Teatro Calderón’s Hall of Mirrors on Wednesday 27 in order to address the issue of “The future of theatrical distribution”. In the course of this event, the conclusions of the previous expert meeting will be announced, including input from speakers like producer and exhibitor Enrique González Macho and the presidents of two independent distributors associations: Próxima (Silvia Lobo) and Adicine (Miguel Morales).

Seminci strengthens its commitment to the worlds of wine and gastronomy, and it does so for the seventh consecutive year by launching a new edition of its Film&Wine + Gastronomy section, organised in collaboration with the Valladolid City Council, the Valladolid Provincial Council, the regulatory councils of the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales DOs and the regional daily El Norte de Castilla. This year’s programme includes three feature films and one short. The former are the documentary Weed and Wine, by Rebecca Richman (2020, USA); Philip Barantini’s Boiling Point (2020, United Kingdom), and Éric Besnard’s Délicieux (2021, France / Belgium), in addition to the short Basajaun, directed by Salvador Arellano Torres and Miguel García Iraburu (2021, Spain).
Under the label Seminci Sound, on the other hand, the Festival ‘s 2021 edition will furthermore host two concerts that will take place in the auditorium of the Valladolid Trade Fair. The first one , on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of The Beatles commemorated by the Valladolid Festival with the special retrospective Beatles Forever, will be performed by Inner Light and will consist in an exploration by Indian musicians of the influences exerted by their country on the Liverpool quartet. This concert will take place on Tuesday 26 at 9:00 p.m., while the second one , by the band El Alquimista Loco, will begin on Thursday 28 at 10:00 p.m.
Autocine (‘Drive-in Cinema’), an initiative launched during the 65th edition of Seminci in order to get the screenings out of the usual venues and bring the festival to all the local residents, returns this year to the surroundings of the José Zorrilla stadium with four big titles. From 8:00 p.m. on the 27 until October 30, outdoor screenings of the following classics will take place: Chungking Express, by Wong Kar-Wai; Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs; Black Cat, White Cat, by Emir Kusturica, and The Dreamers, by Bernardo Bertolucci.
This year, shopping mall Vallsur collaborates with the Valladolid Festival in the event Familia Seminci, which will feature the screening at Yelmo Cines Premium of one of the movies in the fest’s programme grid: Mirai. The film will show from Monday, October 25, to Thursday, October 28, at 5:00 p.m. Vallsur will be giving away 35 tickets per day to customers who present a purchase receipt from the shopping mall worth a minimum of €10 (available while stocks last for each session) .
