Tres [Three], the film by Juanjo Giménez came to the big screen during the 66th edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival. The feature film, which is going to be released on 5th November next and is part of the Spanish Cinema section of the festival, was presented to the public by its director today Friday 29th October.

The story focuses on C., a sound designer who enjoys her work and spends many hours alone. The studio is her last refuge: a place to put off the broken relationships in her life. Although she doesn’t know it yet, C. is starting to fall out of sync. Like a badly soundtracked movie, her brain has begun to process the sound later than the images. Suddenly she is cured, but she is no longer the same. Her sensory odyssey has matured her and she now has a second chance.

The film is a co-production between Spain, France and Lithuania, with the participation of Marta Nieto, Miki Esparbé, Fran Lareu, Luisa Merelas, Cris Iglesias, Julius Cotter and Iria Parada. “The idea for the film was born thanks to Seminci,” Juanjo Giménez told the hall, who added that it all started because of his attraction to sound post-production. “In 2015 I was working on the sound for the feature film El Arca de Noé [Noah’s Ark],” indicated the director, “not being an expert in the field, I was taking much longer than a professional would do in this work, so I spent between 12 and 14 hours inside a studio,” said the filmmaker.

With this in mind, Giménez confessed to the audience that when he went out on the street there was a clash between him and reality. “I would walk down the street and wonder if the world had a soundtrack or hear my colleagues talking and think they were out of sync,” the filmmaker said during the evening of October 29th.

Additionally, during his speech, Juanjo Giménez pointed out that, when he started creating Tres, it seemed like a “Martian” idea. “Now we all know what the delayis because we use Skype or Zoom,” said the director, who added that, after finishing the film, the story has become more “familiar.” To close his presentation, he thanked the audience for attending the screening, “it’s a joy to see the full hall, within its limits,” heconcluded.

Tres will be screened again on Saturday 30th at Broadway Cinemas at 22:15h.
