Valladolid, 16 October 2024. RTVE is once again supporting the Valladolid International Film Festival (SEMINCI), of which it is an official sponsor, during the 69th edition, to be held from 18 to 26 October. The public network will dedicate many of the contents of RNE and TVE’s programming to the SEMINCI programme, the closing gala of which will be broadcast live on Saturday 26th at 20:00 on La 2 and RTVE Play. It will also broadcast some of its programmes in the marquee set up in the Plaza Mayor and has organised two premiere galas during the Festival.
The current president of RTVE, Concepción Cascajosa, signed an agreement this Wednesday with the Councillor for Tourism, Events and City Brand of the Valladolid City Council, Blanca Jiménez, which reinforces and extends the collaboration for the celebration of SEMINCI. The event was attended by the director of the event, José Luis Cienfuegos, José Pastor, Film and Fiction director at RTVE, and Gervasio Iglesias, deputy director of Film at RTVE.
RTVE Gala
En la Gala RTVE, que se celebrará el sábado 19 en el Teatro Calderón, se proyectará Verano en diciembre, the first feature film by actress Carolina África, which will be presented in the Official Section out of competition. The film is a comedy about the story of a controlling and devout woman, played by Carmen Machi. The lives of her four daughters (Bárbara Lennie, Victoria Luengo, Irene Escolar y Beatriz Grimaldos) and her mother-in-law (Lola Cordón) converge in her.
On Sunday 20th, a special gala has been programmed at the Zorrilla Theatre to present, with the presence of the director and his protagonists, the film El llanto, the debut feature film by the Valladolid-born director Pedro Martín-Calero, who recently won the Silver Shell for Best Director at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Ester Expósito stars in this horror film, in which a young woman is haunted by something that no one can see.
RTVE tent in Valladolid
Part of RTVE’s programming next week will be broadcast from the marquee it will set up in Valladolid’s Plaza Mayor. SEMINCI will receive special coverage from cinema TV shows such as Días de Cine and Versión española, which will be broadcast from there on Sunday 25th with the screening of El ciudadano ilustre, by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat; as well as Historia de nuestro cine, which will broadcast from Valladolid its show on Friday 25th, dedicated to Concha Velasco; Cine de Barrio, also featuring Velasco and her film Los gallos de la madrugada; Atención Obras, with guest Marta Nieto, who is presenting La mitad de Ana in Valladolid, and the magazine programme Culturas 2, which on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th will cover the latest news from the festival.
RNE will be present with programmes such as Tres en la carretera, on Radio 3, Va de cine, on Ràdio 4, o De Película, which will dedicate a special to the Festival with some of the stars of the event, on Friday 18 Radio Nacional. This year, Radio Exterior de España will also be present with the show Punto de Enlace, which will be broadcasting two specials from the marquee. And RTVE Play will launch a special collection with award-winning films from the Festival. Free admission will be available for titles such as Felices dieciséis, by Ken Loach, winner of the Golden Spike in 2002; Luna de avellaneda, by Juan José Campanella, for which Ricardo Darín won the Silver Spike; Colmena, by Blerta Basholli, winner of the award for Best Actress; El ciudadano ilustre, by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, Silver Spike for Best Actor and Best Screenplay; Ciudad en celo, by Hernán Gaffet, Best New Director; El profesor de persa, by Vadim Perelman, Best Editing; El universo de Oliver, by Alexis Morante, Young SEMINCI Award and La peor persona del mundo, de Joachim Trier, International Critics’ Jury Award.
Six films and five documentaries by RTVE
This year’s edition of SEMINCI will feature six of the films in which RTVE has participated. Four of them in the Official Section: Fin de fiesta, by Elena Manrique; Salve María, by Mar Coll; La mitad de Ana, by Marta Nieto, and Polvo serán, by Carlos Marqués-Marcet. In addition, Rita, by Paz Vega, and Verano en diciembre, by Carolina África will be screened in the Official Section out of competition.
In the section Time of History, RTVE will present four documentaries: La marsellesa de los borrachos, Pablo Gil Rituerto’s debut; Mi hermano Ali, by Paula Palacios; Waldo, by Charlie Arnáiz and Alberto Ortega, about the musician Waldo de los Ríos, and Hija del volcán, by Jenifer de la Rosa, the story of its author, one of the many children who were given up for adoption outside their country after the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in 1985.
The 69th edition of SEMINCI will also premiere, as a special screening, the documentary from the series Imprescindibles Colita sin filtros, directed by Hortensia Vélez and Elisabeth Anglarill, about the photographer Isabel Steva Hernández ‘Colita’, who passed away in December 2023.
