Two publications will also be presented on 25 October: the Festival's publication Mirror of Passions. German Cinema, the 1970s and the 21st Century: Modern/Contemporary, coordinated by Carlos Losilla, and Caimán Cuadernos de Cine, and El tema de Lara. Words on cinema in Cartelera Turia, written by Fernando Lara (who directed SEMINCI between 1984 and 2004) and published by Vial Books. Mirror of Passions puts the authors of the New German Cinema of the 1970s in dialogue with the representatives of the Berlin School and its surroundings at the beginning of the 21st century. The volume is structured in three blocks (entitled Passions in Mirror, Historical Passions and Affective Passions) that can be read in mirror, that is, either one behind the other so that they reflect each other, or one ‘next to’ the other so that they overlap, with a prelude and a final coda by Carlos Losilla himself. According to the editor, the book is conceived as ‘a kaleidoscope or a map that everyone can go through visually as they please’, with chapters by different specialists who ‘do not try to provide any point of departure or arrival, but many points of encounter, of confluence between times and themes, films and filmmakers, which end up creating a common space in which to discuss and debate’. On the other hand, El tema de Lara compiles numerous articles by Fernando Lara in the section of the same name in the historic publication Cartelera Turia during two distinct periods: the first, from 1982 to 1984, from just after the disappearance of the weekly La Calle until Lara took over the direction of SEMINCI; from 2009 to 2022, from his departure from the General Directorate of Cinema until the time when he closed the section. The book brings together a selection of 257 articles, and is conceived as a tribute to the written word, to its capacity for dialogue and to its status as a source of knowledge, with the aim of enriching readers' knowledge of very decisive periods in Spanish culture.
