Andrés Vicente Gómez

Born in Madrid in 1943, Andrés Vicente Gómez is an icon of Spanish cinema. His extensive filmography, including more than 130 feature films with which he has managed to win over audiences, has made him one of the most prolific, suc- cessful and respected producers in Europe.

He began his audiovisual career as a distributor in the early 1970s, bringing to Spanish audiences classic works by directors such as Buster Keaton, Chaplin, Melville and Kurosawa, and releasing on Spanish screens the works of numerous cult directors such as Bertolucci, Bresson, Chabrol and Kieślowski.

In 1990 he joined the production company LolaFilms, and in his position at the helm of the company he became responsible for films such as ‘Jamón, jamón’, ‘The Day of the Beast’, ‘Torrente: The Dumb Arm of the Law’, ‘The Girl of Your Dreams’ and ‘Goya in Bordeaux’.

He also took on projects like ‘Rain’, with Martin Scorsese as co-producer; ‘The Dancer Upstairs’, with Javier Bardem and John Malkovich; ‘Nearest to Heaven’, with Catherine Deneuve; the co-production with Aurelio di Laurentiis of ‘Christmas on the Nile’; David Trueba’s ‘Soldiers of Salamina’; and ‘The Feast of the Goat’, by Vargas Llosa, among many others.

The winner of an Oscar for ‘Belle Époque’, in the category of Best Foreign Language Film, he has won countless awards for his films at the Berlin, Venice, Montreal and San Sebastian film festivals, which, together with his regular presence at the Goya Awards, makes him the Spanish producer with the highest number of national and international awards.

In recognition of his work as one of the producers who has contributed most to the film industry, the Cannes Film Festival paid tribute to him in 1998. He is a former President of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and of the Media Business School, one of the most prestigious teaching and development institutions in the European Union. He is a member of the European Film Academy and, since 1994, of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of America.
