The eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano on 13 November 1985 resulted in one of the greatest tragedies in the history of Colombia, causing the death of more than 23,000 people and the almost total destruction of the town of Armero. Jenifer de la Rosa was one of the many children who survived and was given up for adoption outside the country, arriving in Valladolid when she was only a year and a half old. At thirty, motivated by the possibility that her biological mother was still alive, she decided to investigate her roots. This research takes her back to her native country on a journey of catharsis that she captures in images through film. Hija del volcán is a film that, simultaneously, speaks of a universal experience: that of the diaspora of adoptees all over the world. People who, driven by hope and the search for answers, never stop chasing the ghosts, literal and symbolic, of their past.
