Holy Cow

After the death of his father, young Totone will have to completely abandon the nightlife and the drinking to face the responsibility of caring for his little sister. Louise Courvoisier's debut feature, winner of the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival, takes us to the mountainous region of the Juca in the western French Alps, where the enterprising protagonist decides to carry on the family heritage by making Comté cheese, the local speciality. This warm coming of age brings us closer to the poetics of the first times, to the innocence and the carefree nature of adolescence, exemplified by Totone's infatuation with Marie-Lise, a daring and independent girl. A naturalistic portrait with a deeply moving look at the complex transition into adulthood in a rural environment.
