La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés

Antón Álvarez, better known by his stage name C. Tangana, makes his directorial debut with La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés, a film that opened the New Directors section of the San Sebastian Film Festival. The Madrid-born filmmaker follows the flamenco musician with his camera and provides a complex radiography of his family history. It is this story, marked by a tragedy of which little or nothing is said, that Cortés translates into the lyrics and melodies that make up his compositions. So what at first appears to be a music documentary is revealed as a moving portrait of an artist who knows no separation between his life, his culture and his work. Like flamenco itself, Antón Álvarez's film touches on the intimate vein, bringing up issues of identity, interpersonal relationships and racism towards the gypsy community. A work about the need to tell stories and to find in art the ideal medium to do so.
