An intimate portrait of three courageous female wrestlers (Luchadoras) from Ciudad Juarez who despite being surrounded by machismo redefine the image of woman in Mexico. The short statured Mini Serinita who’s biggest dream is to become a full time Luchadora and leave her factory work. Lady Candy who can see the U.S. Border, where her daughters were taken, from her house but due to visa regulations can never cross it. And Baby Star, the young single mother who was a Lucha Libre Star at an early age and now makes her way to a come back.

Paola Calvo, Patrick Jasim

Paola Calvo is an Venezuelan director and DOP born in Caracas in 1981. She graduated in Media Studies from Universidad Complutense in Madrid in 2005. In 2006, she enrolled in the Cinematography Department of DFFB film school in Berlin, and her debut film, ‘Violently Happy’ (2017), was her graduation work. ‘Luchadoras’ is her first feature film as a director. Patrick Jasim is a German director and DOP. His feature debut in this capacity, ‘Bube Stur’, was screened at Berlinale Film Festival 2015. His last film, the documentary ‘Helmut Berger, my Mother and Me’, was premiered at the prestigious Max Ophüls Price and was screened in German cinemas in 2019. ‘Luchadoras’ is his first feature as a director.
