Naked Acts

Bridgett M. Davis
United States
 - 1995
Celebrated as a key film in the canon of independent cinema by African-Americans in the 1990s. Beautiful aspiring actor Cicely has just landed her first major role, but there’s a big problem: it requires a nude scene. Her mother was a Blaxploitation star known for her sex appeal, while Cicely is a survivor of sexual assault with life- long body image issues, all of which has left her with a strong aversion to disrobe in public. Now, with the support of her boyfriend Joel, she attempts to get past her fear.
Bridgett M. Davis
Writer/director of the critically acclaimed, award-winning film ‘Naked Acts’. Shot in 1994, the film screened at international festivals in the US, Europe, South America, and Africa, yet did not acquire theatrical distribution. She is currently writing the screenplay for her second feature film, about the women of colour who deeply influenced Jimi Hendrix throughout his last days in New York. As an author, Davis has written two novels and the memoir, ‘The World According To Fannie Davis: My Mother’s Life In The Detroit Numbers’. The upcoming film adaptation is produced by Plan B and will be released by Searchlight Pictures. Her most recent memoir, ‘Love, Rita’, will be published in Spring 2025 by Harper Books.
