Born in 1964 in Norway, he combines film directing with his work as a writer. After directing several short films, his first feature, ‘I Belong’ (2012), won the Norwegian Film Critics Association award and the Norwegian Film Institute’s Amanda awards for Best Screenplay and Best Direction. In 2019, he premiered ‘Barn’ at the Venice Film Festival, which won a record nine Amanda awards, including Best Film, and was honoured at the Gothenburg and Thessaloniki festivals. 'Sex' (2024), his latest work, marks the beginning of a trilogy by its director that is completed with 'Love' and 'Dreams' (recently premiered in Venice). 'Sex' won three awards at its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival, including the Ecumenical Jury prize, as well as four Amanda awards.
