Born in 1955 in Paris (France). His first film, ‘Disorder’ (1986), was awarded at its premiere in the Critics’ Week of the Venice Film Festival, where he returned in 2012 with ‘Something in the Air’ (Best Screenplay award), in 2018 with ‘Non-Fiction’ and in 2019 with ‘Wasp Network’. In 1992 he won the Prix Jean Vigo for ‘Paris Awakens’ and in 1998 he premiered in San Sebastián ‘Late August, Early September’ (Best Actress award). He has participated in the Cannes Film Festival on around ten occasions, with ‘Cold Water’ (1994), ‘Irma Vep’ (1996), ‘Sentimental Destinies’ (2000), ‘Demonlover’ (2002), ‘Clean’ (2004, Best Actress award), the collective film ‘Paris, I Love You’ (2006), ‘Boarding Gate’ (2007), ‘Clouds of Sils Maria’ (2014), ‘Personal Shopper’ (2016, Best Director award) and the miniseries ‘Irma Vep’ (2022). ‘Suspended Time’ (2024) had its world premiere this year at the Berlin Film Festival.
