Today’s consecrated journalist Ajoy Bose was a rebellious teenager in Calcutta in love with the Beatles when they arrived in India. Together with cultural researcher Peter Compton, he co-directs this documentary film based on his own book ‘Across the Universe: The Beatles in India’. A work that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the quartet’s historic trip from Liverpool to Rishikesh, which marked a before and after in their understanding of music and life.
Ajoy Bose is a veteran print journalist, television commentator and author. He was the India Correspondent of ‘The Guardian’, London for over two decades and the Executive Editor of ‘The Pioneer’ newspaper in New Delhi. His latest book ‘Across the Universe’, recreating the fascinating journey of the Beatles to India half a century ago. Peter Compton has worked in the record industry for 45 years. As a researcher and statistician he worked closely on the development of music charts that tracked beyond the standard singles and albums genres and has worked across television, film, newspapers and magazines with information flows. He has worked as a music supervisor and was an executive producer on Renoir Pictures’ previous project, ‘It Was Fifty Years Ago Today – The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper & Beyond’.
