In Warsaw, a taxi driver washes his car, turns down two customers and finally agrees to take a deadpan young man to the riverbank. The passenger then ties a noose around the neck of the driver and strangles him. Jacek is tried in court, where he is represented by a young lawyer opposed to the death penalty. It is his first major case. Jacek is sentenced to death by hanging. During the trial, the sad story of the young murderer is revealed...
