The 69th edition of SEMINCI premieres in Spain, after its out-of-competition screening at the Venice Film Festival, Los años nuevos, a 10-episode series distributed by Movistar Plus+. One of the most eagerly awaited Spanish television productions of the year, it is directed and scripted by a team led by Rodrigo Sorogoyen (El reino, Que Dios nos perdone). The filmmaker returns to the television format, where he already directed the outstanding Antidisturbios, after winning nine Goya awards with As bestas (best film, director and original screenplay, among them) at the last edition of the awards. The plot of Los años nuevos, written by Sara Cano, Paula Fabra and Sorogoyen, together with Marina Rodríguez Colás and Antonio Rojano, covers the ten-year relationship of a couple in their thirties, Ana (Iría del Río) and Óscar (Francesco Carril) from 2015 to the present day. From the moment they meet and fall in love until their relationship goes hopelessly wrong. The good and bad moments of any couple; the doubts and the hurts; the feelings and the absence of them; along with the work and family circumstances and the friends that surround them and influence the couple's life. The series, directed by Sorogoyen, Sandra Romero (Por donde pasa el silencio) and David Martín de los Santos (La vida era eso), manages to delve into a couple's relationship, into what could have been and wasn't, into love and its wear and tear. He weaves these everyday moments into a melancholic tapestry of the passage from youth to maturity, of how we become the people we want to be, and the blur between the life we have and the life we wanted to have.
