Born in Madrid in 1981. After filming several short films, he made his feature film debut when he was barely 25 years old with ‘8 citas’, co-directed with Peris Romano. In 2012 he directed ‘Stockholm’, which won multiple awards at the Malaga Film Festival and a Goya for best new actor. In 2016 he released ‘May God Save Us’, which won best script at the San Sebastian
Film Festival and a Goya for best leading actor, and a year later he released the short film ‘Madre’, which earned him a Goya award and an Oscar nomination. With ‘The Candidate’ (2018) he won thirteen Goya nominations and seven statuettes, a year later he competed at the Venice Film Festival with ‘Madre’ (best actress award in the Orizzonti section), and in 2022 he presented ‘The Beasts’ at Cannes, awarded with nine Goyas including best film. His filmography also includes series like ‘Antidisturbios’ (2020), ‘Stories to Stay Awake’ (2021), ‘Apagón’ (2022) and ‘The New Years’ (2024), presented out of competition at Venice.
