They Will Be Dust lands in Spain for the opening gala of the 69th Seminci. The new feature film by Carlos Marques-Marcet (Long Distance, The Days to Come), whose filmography is a constant reflection on the human condition, takes the form of a musical tragicomedy to explore the blurred boundaries between life and death. Ángela Molina plays Claudia, a woman diagnosed with a terminal illness who decides to go to Switzerland to end her life. A journey of no return that she undertakes with Flavio (Alfredo Castro), her partner of forty years, while her daughter Violeta (Mònica Almirall) takes on the role of mediator between the two of them and everything they are leaving behind. María Arnal's soundtrack and La Veronal's choreography set the scene for this unique story about the decision to die. An unexpected celebration of life itself and of the unconditional love of those who accompany us along the way.
Carlos Marques-Marcet

He was born in Barcelona in 1983 and moved to Los Angeles with a scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Film Direction at UCLA. He began his career as an editor until he made ‘10.000 KM’ (2014), his directorial debut. After the film’s premiere at SXSW, where it won the Special Jury Prize, it was nominated for the EFA, and won the Goya for best new director. He continued his career as a filmmaker with ‘Anchor and Hope’ (2017; SXSW, Rotterdam, BFI London) and ‘The Days to Come’ (2019), which premiered in the Official Selection in Rotterdam. He has also directed several programs for platforms such as HBO, MovistarPlus+ and Atresmedia. ‘They Will Be Dust’ (2024), his latest feature film, had its world premiere at the Toronto Festival, where it was awarded Best Film in the Platform section.
