Born in 1975 in Bolzano, Italy, she trained in playwriting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after studying literature at Bologna University and Paris IV La Sorbonne. Her first documentary ‘Signori Professori’, won the Avanti! Award and the UCCA Award at the 26th Turin Film Festival. In 2011, she was selected for the Locarno Film Summer School. The documentary ‘Nadea e Sveta’ (2012) won the Special Jury Mention at the Solinas – Documentary for Cinema Awards. For four years, she taught cinema in a home for single mothers in Buenos Aires, an experience that inspired her first film, ‘Maternal’ (2019). The only Italian film in competition at the 72nd Locarno Film Festival in 2020, ‘Maternal’ won the Special Jury Prize. ‘Vermiglio’ (2024) won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
